In the beginning
The idea of ‘Dare to Dream’ is one that has been around for a long time, in fact it was one I held to. On consideration, though, is that really the best way to go, if you are looking to move to better things in your life? Dreams are merely wishful thinking, not tied to anything solid that will make your dreams become a reality.
A more effective idea, in my opinion, is the one of ‘Dare to Believe’! When you dare to believe in yourself, you come to see yourself as one who tries things out and gets things done, believing in successful outcomes, and hooray, those outcomes can occur.
When I decided to write and publish my first self-published book, I didn’t dare to dream, I dared to believe that I (with my friend, Ally Hean), could put together a book that others would be interested in, and would pay money for. So we both got together, believing in ourselves, our own abilities, and so “Dig It! Gardening Tips for Dogs” came into being.

And after that successful first book, two more in the series are now ‘out there’ in the world, and there is another book being planned right now. The fourth book is not a dream, it is something I believe, in fact know, will come to being, because I care about it, and I now have two others who believe in this book too.
The book in the photo is the third book in the “Buster the Dog” series of books, a fun look at what Buddhism may look like to a dog. The first book in the series looked, obviously, at dogs and gardens. I know a lot about dogs, and a reasonable number of things about gardening, so I believed I could write this book, and make it amusing. My beliefs in my abilities have shown to be true, judging by the favourable comments I’ve received.
What Do You Believe?
Do you have a dream, that you think about, dream about, wish about, but never actually believe will come into being? I’m sure there are many people in this position. Dreaming is a way of thinking good things about a mythical future, one that may never come to being. But dreaming is not going to make a thing happen. Believing though, that goes with making the plans that can make that thing actually happen.
If you have been dreaming on a writing related thing, a short story, poetry collection, or novel, what do you think you need to move from wispy dreams to believing in your project, and making it come true?
