Submit To An Important Anthology

“Important anthology?’ Where have I heard that phrase before? Oh yeah, it was the year 2020, actually, when I had the compelling idea I absolutely must do something about the terrible Covid-19 Virus that was killing people all around the world. Several people I spoke to regarding this idea indicated such an anthology would be an important work in terms of historical significance.

And so the book “Plague Invasion” came into being; an anthology of creative writing written in response to Covid-19, with submissions called for, received, then put together in a book, and then the book published and printed. This is what that book looks like:

A great cover that immediately demands to be looked at, and so it was, looked at, read, purchased, and that process continues still (contact me via email – kittycordo@gmail.com for more information.

But with that project at the completion stage, my attention is now on another one, a new one. An anthology concerning an even bigger threat to the world – Climate change. But I wanted this new anthology to be broader, looking at the whole of everything, really, in some ways. This new anthology will take in how the planet is going, how the people are going, how individuals are going, in the face of massive changes.

And yes the Covid virus issues have certainly brought about changes to our lives, with masking up, social distancing, and washing/disinfecting our hand become common things. So there may be a bit more of that, in this new book, for sure. But I want this book to be global, personal, and then global, covering the subjects of Climate, Change, and then Climate Change.

So yes, the climate is under threat from the doings of mankind, the people have a variety of ways in which we change, in our lives – change where we live and work, change partners, change our hair style, our clothes, change a babies nappy, change our gender even. And there is Climate Change threatening the very existence of countries, as seas rise at extraordinary rates, faster than thought we may ever witness.

Yes. Global to personal, and back to global again. I ask for submissions of poetry and/or prose. Details of submissions required are:
Up to three pieces of poetry of up to thirty lines for each work
Up to three pieces of prose of up to 2000 words for each work

If submitted works cover more than one of the subjects (as I expect may happen) will also require the writer to indicate which of the three they consider to be the main one. Works in the anthology will be presented in three sections 1/ Climate, 2/ Change. and 3/ Climate Change, with each section further divided between poetry, and prose.

And the title for this work? At the moment the working title is simply “Climate, Change, Climate Change”. I don’t know if this will be the title once the book is completed, and launched, but it may be that it will be. I feel this new anthology will be regarded as another important anthology, but of not historical significance this time, but environmental and societal significance. And important book for sure, don’t you think?

I hope and expect to again receive a range of fantastic and important pieces of work to consider for inclusion in this potential new anthology, “Climate, Change, Climate Change”. And if no-one else writes something about ‘Changes One Bowie’, then I will probably have to cover that one myself. A New Year, A New Writing Project

Last year I worked on, and published and launched an anthology about an important thing, the Corona Covid-19 Virus. That book is now ‘out there’ in a couple of libraries, and in peoples’s own personal libraries, and I am proud of what I achieved. So many thanks to all of the poets/writers who submitted their words to that project. The Book, “Plague Invasion” was important, and the sharing of thoughts and ideas about this subject deemed to be an important from an historical view.

This year, I have a new idea, and so a new project, again on important subjects, from both global, and personal points of view, and everything in between. I don’t know what this new book will ultimately look like, because yesterday was the first day of officially putting out a call for submissions to this new anthology, and I have nothing for it, apart from my own writings, which may or may not still be there, by the time the book is launched.

I plan on a launch date of late July this year, (2022), so I have calculated a closing date for submissions of first of May, should allow sufficient time for the book to be put together, edited, looked at my others, and then printed before the Gawler and Adelaide Plains Festival of Words is on. I wish to again launch a book, this book in fact, during this important Festival.

Last year and the year before, the Festival was quite severely impacted by Covid restrictions, but I have hopes we might be on the way to being over such things. If people do the right thing – mask up, wash their hands, and adhere to social distancing rules. This year though, it may be I’m in my normal Pollyanna mode of looking on the positive side of things, who really knows, but I really do thing we’ve almost turned a corner, and things are on the way to being better.

Not normal, I suspect anything called ‘normal’ could be a thing of the past, if there ever was such a thing for all. Normal is another name for yeah, I’m ok, but don’t look too closely at things … What may be termed normal for one person may look like poverty to another person, and what looks like poverty to could seem to be riches to another. Normal is not a real thing, it’s a name we call things, so we can manage our lives in ways that work for us …

Anyway, back to this new project

For this project, I require creative writing, both Poetry and Prose, concerning any or all of these three things : Climate, Change, and Climate Change. The individual pieces may allude to more than one of the three, but I ask the submitter indicate which of the three they consider most important one for the particular work.

Contributors can submit up to three poems, and three works of prose. The poems can be up to and including thirty lines for each poem (if sending Haiku or Senryu, up to five of each on the same or similar theme will be considered as one work). Prose can be up to and including 2,000 words for each work.

Works are to be submitted either as ‘word’ documents attached to the email, or in the body of the email, if via email to kittycordo@gmail.com with the appropriate theme in the ‘subject’. It is preferred Prose submissions be word files, but it not too lengthy and preferred is not available submission via body of email is acceptable.

The Deed Not Yet Done, But At Least Begun!

Yes, finally, on this, the final day of the year 2021, I have finally begun the process of putting together my next Anthology. I hope this book may be ready in time to be launched at the 2022 Gawler And Adelaide Plains Festival of Words. But given the fact I haven’t even put the call out yet, who knows whether that will be possible …

But today, I am putting out such a call, asking for submissions of poetry and/or prose, that refers to this anthology, to be titled “Climate, Change, Climate Change”. I require learned pieces on the subject of both Climate and Climate Change, and about the trials and tribulations of going through various changes in life.

I am not an expert in the first two mentioned subjects, but I have certainly had a broad exposure to various aspects of ‘change’. But that first one, ‘Climate’ may be not scientific, but rather a less particular aspect, and referring instead to ‘the climate of a room, when somebody drops a clanger’ for instance …

And really, anyone with any exposure to the news, will surely have some ideas about climate change, what it is, and whether they are or might be affected by it. I remember hearing something recently on the news, about islands being flooded out, causing people to leave their homes, and heading for the mountainous regions, up higher than the invading waters.

Whether a believer or denialist, strongly held ideas, presented interestingly are required to make this anthology everything I hope it can be. So scientist, or lay person, your thoughts and ideas, presented as poetry or prose are needed and any of all of these three subjects.

And if you happen to be an expert in Climate Change, I wold love to hear from you, with the idea of possibly writing the introduction of this new book. And if you aren’t an expert, but know own, an introduction to them about this idea, so they may write said piece would be extremely welcome!

What I need

So, I am calling for up to three pieces of poetry and/or prose, with poems to be up to thirty lines, and prose to be up to up to 2,000 words. Because there will be three parts of this anthology – Climate, Change, Climate Change, all with two further sections – Poetry, Prose, I ask the submissions have in the subject of the email the writer’s own belief about what is the most important subject of their piece, it it refers to more than just one of the subjects.

For instance, if you are writing a piece that talks about the way we change governments, based on their attitudes to Climate Change, put whichever is most important, as you see it. When it comes down to it, if I as the editor have a different idea about which is most important, we can have that discussion at a later stage, before the anthology is published.

So I am asking for submissions from now, until early May 2022. Submissions are to be sent to me at kittycordo@gmail.com, and indicate the subject of your piece in your email.

Why Am I So Thrilled?

Why, I’ll tell you why I’m so thrilled – I’ve only just put out the word about the new Anthology I have begun working on, and the submissions have already begun arriving!

The theme of my first Anthology was Covid-19, a bit theme for sure, but the combined themes for this next anthology is possible an even bigger one, even if it may seem to be distant, to some people. But with a theme of Climate Change, and Climate, and Change separately, well that takes in Global Warming, and with the seas rising up and trying to swallow up island nations, this theme is one that also has potentially deadly effects.

So, while this anthology is about something I’m not thrilled about happening, I AM thrilled to process of raising concerns and sharing ideas about these matters has begun, and will result in the publication of a book that brings discussion of important notions into the world.

So the stated themes for this anthology are these: ‘Climate, Change, and Climate Change’. Three different things, but perhaps with many possible connections between them. I leave it to the contributors to this call for works, to make any connections, or simply focusing on one single theme, Change perhaps, and make no connections from that to anything larger or more global that the changing of a light globe.

But is even that process of change as simple a thing as seems at first. I remember when light globes were cheaper than they are now, and why did we so easily make the change to the new, more expensive kind? The change to low-energy (LED) light bulbs came in in most countries, and the people have had to make the change, because they were the main option available.

Low energy means less carbon in the world, and that is a good thing, good for the planet, which means good for all. And the higher cost is off set by the fact these LED lights last much for longer than the old incandescent ones we all had in 2006 and earlier. So better for us, and better for the globe yet again.

And of course climate – the prevailing conditions occurring over a long term in weather, or in opinion, etc, this is another important theme to write about. If the climate of opinion on something is that money is the most important thing, what kind of a world does that make for this living at that time? What if the climate of opinion was that the betterment of conditions for all was more important than filling the pockets, of a few?

So these and many more ideas will suit this anthology, and I look forward to reading works that arrive!

One Project Done, What Comes Next?

After the editing of an important book with submissions from around the world, I wondered, what can come next? The project I took an as a bit of light relief, while of some interest, hasn’t completely engaged my attention. I felt I needed something meatier, to really engage me with my major writing project. Having that other anthology go well was a bit of an encouragement to do it again, to see if the success can be repeated.

This is the successful project: I’ve written about this book, the creation of it and so on, elsewhere on this blog, feel free to look around to see what has happened.

Plague Invasion is an anthology of creative writing written in response to the prompt of Covid-19, and I received fantastic responses in both poetry and prose in response to this prompt. As the Editor of this book, I put it all together and had it printed, then organised a launch for the book, and advertising of the book and related information, online and via print media.

That was certainly a big, and important issue to write about, as shown by the writing received, but also a broad enough subject to receive a wide range of responses. Even when responses followed similar paths, they were still varied enough to maintain interest.

I had never done something as ‘global’ as that anthology, and so when I realised the similar importance of another issue of widespread through the world, and as important, I decided to take another look and work toward creating another anthology, one of extreme importance …

That important theme, if you haven’t worked it out already, is Climate Change. When you consider how many people are possibly to be made homeless, or even killed by the effects of Climate Change, you realise just how important it is that we, the whole world, think about the climate, and the way it is dangerously changing …

For Plague Invasion, it was the name of the book that sparked my interest the most right at the beginning, in April 2020, when Covid-19 first hit, That and the feeling I must do something big, in reaction to this virus that was causing so much trouble. The title grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go.

But with this new project, the title, at the moment anyway, is just a working title, and I don’t know if that title is likely to hold out until the book is ready to be printed, and then launched.

This website has lots of information about Climate Change and Global Warming that is the reason why these changes are happening so rapidly, since the world changed in the 1950s and continues to change, with more and more things occurring in response to humankind, and out effect on the world …

My idea is to have three sections in this anthology, each split into two parts. The two parts, as with Plague Invasion, are the split between Poetry, and Prose. The three sections? Well, the working title what they will be. The working title is Climate/Change/Climate Change and so there will be a section about Climate, another about Change, and then the final section will specifically be about Climate Change, the biggie that is causing Global Warming, and looking to drown islands in the the Pacific Ocean, and causing massive changes in our weather …

So there it is, those who wish to be involved are to write in either poetry or prose, or both, about Climate, or Change, or the big one, Climate Change. By Climate, the reference is to the trends of what is happening, rather than just one day, and can refer to weather trends, the ongoing feeling in a workplace, or a marriage, or an educational facility, a sporting club, and so on.

Change covers a large variety of things, changing jobs, changing a baby’s nappy, changing gender, changing cars. There are a great many other things that get changed, you might change your clothes, your mind, the colour of your hair, your friends, the kind of pet you have, and I could go on and on, again …

And with Climate Change, I am looking for references to this global force that is the cause of so much damage going on all around the world. Weather is being more destructive, more often than anyone alive can ever remember. and as the NASA site linked here mentions.

So, now we get to the nitty gritty details on what I actually want from you, the potential submitter to this anthology.

I will accept up to 3 poems of up to 30 lines, and up to 3 pieces of prose (fiction or non fiction) of up to 2000 words based on one, some, or all of the writing prompts. If in the writing of your submission you make reference to more than one of the three writing prompts of the working title in a single submitted piece, please indicate in your submission which you consider to be the most important/relevant prompt.

My intent is to have this anthology ready in time to be launched in late July next year, during the running of the 2022 Gawler and Adelaide Plains Festival of Words (Imagination). To allow this to be ready in time, the closing date for submission of works for this anthology is 1 May 2022.
