Getting Ready to Get ‘Plague Invasion’ Out!

OK, so that publisher can’t publish the Anthology I have produced, they’re too busy to be able to get it out, and launched soon enough. I’m glad I made the call, to find out how things were going with it all, and I’m more than happy to have this anthology back in my hands.

I’m going to tell the members of the writing group about it, and then on Saturday, I’m going to have a good look at the manuscript again, then I’m going to get the necessary agreement form sent out to all of the people who’ve giving me work to be considered who had their works accepted.

It’s a big job, but I have the time and the commitment to this project, and it will happen! So yes, keep an eye on your email inbox, an as I indicated in a previous post about this, if you haven’t heard from me about this but April, please let me know! My email address is kittycordo@gmail.com

Many thanks everyone, I have a dog to feed now, gotta go!

Some Good News About Rejection!

Plague Invasion, the anthology I put together last year, using works sent to me from all around the world, as well as my own country of Australia, has been given back to me by the publisher I gave it to, unpublished, and instead of being sad or upset, I am happy!

I spoke with Michael Bollen, from Wakefield Press today, and while he said it was a good anthology, he would not be able to have it ready to be launched in July, for the Gawler and Adelaide Plains Festival of Words (Recovery). In the face of these crazy Covid times, the publishing would is running hot, with many people writing books, and wanting to be published.

So I am both sad the anthology won’t be published by Wakefield Press, but happy to have this ‘baby’ back in my hands, to self publish book myself! It’s been a while since I looked at what I’d said about the terms for publishing this anthology, so I’m going to have to go back and look at it all. I’ll be sending out a form to all of the people whose work I’ve accepted, which will happen I expect, in late March.

So if April comes around, and I haven’t emailed you an author agreement form please contact me on my email address, kittycordo@gmail.com

This doesn’t feel like a rejection to me, it feels like getting my child back, after they’ve been away on a holiday! I have enough pieces for this Anthology to be a fine book as it is right now, so won’t be accepting any new works for Plague Invasion. But if this is a successful endeavour, there may well be a new anthology once this one is launched, sold, loved, and admired!

I have never done such a large project, and while I am thrilled with how this book will likely look, it’s still a very new thing for me, but I saw the time for this anthology was now, and many people wanted to be involved in such a project. The Covid issue has twists and turns, good, and bad, and this process of getting the anthology has been a bit like that too.

But the anthology will happen, and will be launched at the Festival in 2021, and I am so glad. Now, to get onto the artist for the front cover again, and see what he comes up with!

Stages and Pages

Things have slowed down, with putting together the Covid-19 related anthology I’ve been working on, but I’m a bit excited (very excited, actually), to have another piece that may end up in this book.

The book will be called “Plague Invasion – Creative Writing Responses to Covid-19”, and it’s very close to being ready to prepare it for printing. I’ve spoken to the person who will provide the front cover image. I’ve spoken to the printer recently too, with hopeful results. Thing are progressing well.

I almost have all of the submissions needed for this anthology. There’s a broad range of works, poetry, prose, fiction, and non fiction, and I’m loving the words people has sent to me. If putting together an anthology is always this much fun, even when the subject matter is not always a fun topic, well, bring on anthology subjects, I may do another one, once Plague Invasion has been launched.

No, I won’t think further about that yet, I’m busy on other things, although … No I’ll get on with the other projects already begun, and finish some of them before I get working on that idea. In the forefront of my mind anyway. There’s no telling where the back of my brain might go though, when I’m not watching!

I have to say, I think I’ve never had such a time of creativity in terms of my writing. In this Lock Down time, things are still happening. Online connections are safe and they’re fast, too. And ideas are flowing, a river of them, and all I need to do is catch one in my net, and get stuck into it! The anthology is the most important thing, but things progress at their own pace, and the times in between can be used on smaller things …

At the moment, this anthology is looking like 104 words, or so, with at least another six or seven pages of prose on their way (or at least I hope they are …). So there will be over one hundred and ten pages, and

Time lengthens, shortens, depending on stages and pages …
